The gospel is the good news of Jesus Christ and what he has done for us to have eternal salvation through belief in His death and resurrection as the only way to God (John 14:6). Jesus Christ willingly died on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead on the third day (I Corinthians 15:3-4). Because of the fall of man and disobedience (Genesis 3:15-17), and rejection of God, humans were separated from God due to our sinful nature (Romans 3:21-26). Because of this God sent His one and only Son to pay a ransom for our sins (reconcile us to God) and take our place of death.
The gospel “good news” is that Jesus Christ is God the Son, the promised Messiah (Isaiah 7:14; 9:6), conceived in the flesh by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin (Matthew 1:18-25), true God and true man (John 1:14), without sin, and the only mediator between God and Man.
Christ lived a sinless life (1 Peter 2:21-22; Hebrews 4:14-15) in righteousness, with perfect obedience to His Father (John 17:4), not for His own well being but out of love for humanity with serving and giving His life as a ransom for many (Mark 10:45). God sent His son Jesus as an offering of Himself for our sins as a perfect sacrifice to satisfy the justice, wrath, and righteousness of God (John 3:16-17). Christ died on the cross (Luke 23:33-49; Mark 15:34). He was buried and after three days he rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). The gospel is Jesus, our only hope for eternity.
